2008/2/21 Reading Week..Reading Week is a period of time before a serious of examination where one is suppose.. to catch up on their homework and study for upcoming week.... note, one is "suppose to do such such..".. and obviously.. I did not.. (ughhh...).. I have two repors due.. one 1,500 word about a press release for a business idea and the other 2,000 word on Company Law... Then I have a crazy exam next week - Futures and Options - where I know absolutely nothing about.. absolutely nothing.. sounds my London academic experience might turn out to be something I don't want to look back at.. lol..
Anyway, because it is reading week, everyone in my flat are pretty much gone... I, on one hand, had couple plans - visit my friend at Barcelona, go to Scotland, or visit the mountains in Wales... in which case.. all of the plans failed... I ended up staying in my quiet flat wasting my life away with my other friend - Ferida... the only thing we accomplished is eating, planning a future trip, clubbing (which is doen regularly anyway), and talking...
On a personal note, I think I a suffering from Insomina lately.. I haven't been able to go to sleep before 6am even if I havent' sleep for 20+ hours... I normally get woken up really easily.. like today.. at 10 am.. because a random crazy ass bastard was ringing the door bell for no reason.. (seriously.. no one is here.. well... almost)... This conidtion has been ongoing for 2 weeks now.. I think I might need to seek professional help.. haha.. but Seriously thou.. *%* 2008/2/17 Stonehenge and BathStonehenge (wiki) is one of the sevens wonders in the world (世界七奇观之一). Its the history behind it that's more stunning. Its quite a feeling being at the location as 4000+ years (2300BC) ago, people were building it with limited tools and such. It is till a wonder how people built it or what it was really built for. Regardless, it is a place one should definitely visit. My suggestion would be to come in the Summer as you could actually get inside the stone and spend a night there.
Then there's Bath, so far, one of the most beautiful cities I have visited - gorgeous.. stunning... My picture skill is quite poor, so you certainly won't get the feels from that. Basically, Bath is famous for its hot spring spas.. Romans used to travel here to relax in the hot natural spring filled huge bath.
As far as study goes, this coming up week is the reading week, where one is suppose to study for their midterms.. crazy huh.. midterms alrady.. lol.. Anyway, no one really actually study during this period, people either go home or travel around. My original plan is to travel to Wales, but that won't probably go well as my friend and i both have essays coming up and such.. Haven't really gone out for the past few week.. sick and my weirdness insonmia... can't sleep at night thus still up 4:32 AM.... help!!!
2008/2/10 British Museum Take 3This is my third visit to British Museum.. The first time, my battery was dead. The second time, I charged my battery but forgot to bring it. Since they are doing a Chinese theme celebration for the Rat Year, so I am back here for the third time, fully prepared. I am pretty sure I visited every single exhibit in BM (including the Terracotta Soldier.. which is definitely worth the 10 pound.. and definitely going back to see it in 西安). I took pictures of the statues and showcase pieces that standed out to me... There are tons more there, and if you want to see every little item, it would take you years.
Anyway, for those who do visit London, make sure to visit British Museum, it is free (donations are welcomed, but I am poor)..
Today (2/9/08) is also the Chinese New Year theme day at British Museum, there are performances, lectures, and activities scheduled througout the day. These girls are showcasing one of the 55 chinese local group's dance. There are others too - sword dance, arobatic, martial art, etc. There are also lectures about Chinese Zodiac signs and such... also little activities for kids and adults (but mainly kids) such as calligraphy, making latern...
I couldn't stay the whole time because I had to work.
I was suppose to visit Chinatown today for the Chinese New Year parade.. sadly I couldn't wake up.. so plan cancalled.. I am too lazy.. it is my only chance in London to see it since i won't be back next year..
Lastly, Happy Rat Year to Everyone! 2008/2/3 My first report/assignment in UKUniversity coursework in UK is very differnt from the states. I am taking a total of four classes here - ranging from one hour to three hour per week. Two of which have seminars.
I think overall, students in UK do more independent work as professors really don't teach much in classes. They don't assign much homeoworks, instead they have essays and reports. Most of them require at least 2000 words. The one I just finished (the draft version) is 3000 word max criteria. I thought I would die, but I ended up going 600 words over.
Courses here are only 10 weeks instead of 13-14 weeks in the states. There's always a mini-vacation before major exam period ranging from a week to three week. These vacations are known as reading week, but I doubt if people actually study. I am planning on traveling during that period, so am deifnitely not studying anything.. lol..
That's everything in a nutshell. More to be added.. I am sure..
p.s. sigh.. can't watch superbowl in London!! 555555.. i want to see the commercials!!! |
