A busy day!

12th was a really busy day for me. I had tickets for volleyball, weightlifitng and swimming, starting from 9 in the morning till 9 at night.. with no break.. I even had to leave early from some events to catch the next one.

In the morning, I went to watch men's volleyball in BIT gymnasium two games - Germany vs Russia than Brazil vs ?.  I was only there for the Germany and Russia game. It was really close. Germany was in lead but Russia came back up and won the final match - 16 vs 14. Poor germany.. i was cheering for it the whole time.  I couldn't stay for the second one because I had to go catch USA men's volleyball against Italy.  I was sitting in an area where most people were cheering for Italy.. but I still made my voice heard.. haha.. I am "LOUD"!!! US did win.. probably becuase I cheered really loud.. lol.. jk..

Once again, I couldn't stay for the second game, had to run stragith to women's 63 kg weightlifting... i was about 40 minutes late.. the game was almost over... I thought China would be competing in this event.. but we were not... anyway.. the game was still awesome.. people who weight 63kg or less could lift something that's double their weight.. its mind boggling.. South Korea won at the end with the last lift.. congrats to the girl.. she was really happy.. ye.. no wonder.. hehe

For swimming.. I actually had a bit time left before the game start.. when I got there.. the taxi drive dropped me off about a mile away from the main entrance so I had to walk a lot a lot.. it was a pain.. but going inside the olympic park and seeing the cube, bird nest.. it was awesome.. so pretty... the swimming was mostly for prem.. didn't see phelps cuz he was trying to conserve energy so didn't participate in the 4*200 men relay... did see China kicked ass in the women 200 butterfly.. (and they won 1 & 2 in the finals too).. pretty rocking...

Oh.. BOCOG did a really good job organizing transportation for the game.. because Beijing have really bad traffic issues.. they deicided to do even and odd driving days.. on odd days, only odd driving license plate can go.. and vice versa.. it helped a lot.. also.. if one has olympic ticket.. travel by bus and subway is free.. i am just always too lazy to wait for bus and train (and bus is really confusing)...

13th I watched badminton. it was very close in the women's single final.. Zhang Ning from china was going against Pi Hong Yan of France (she also came from China back in the day).  There went all the way to the 3rd match.. and Zhang Ning won by 2.. which is really really close..

14th and 15th.. i stayed home to watch game from home.. congrats to Yang Wei for men's all around gymnastic and phelps for winning 6/8 gold..

Lastly! Don't ever trust some people when they promised u to swap tickets.. I just got screwed as he decided to back out last second.. now I won't be able to see basketball.. sigh..

Waterpolo Prem

Yesterday was my first live olympic game - waterpolo...

The morning session had three games
--> Canada vs Spain (6:16)
I really don't know much about waterpolo, but Canada was really not that great.  They hesistate a lot when aiming for the goal. It would have been better to just shoot for the goal. That's what Spain did and they won with a lot of points.

--> Montenegro vs. Hungary (10:10)
This was a hell of game all the way up till last minute.  There were a lot of Hungarian and Montenegro(ians?) there to cheer for the team.  I was ruling for the Montegengro because one of them brough me an orange juice.. hehe.. I think both of them are ranked really high in the waterpolo world.  Basically, this match showed that live is so much better than broadcasted.

--> Serbia vs Germany (11:7)
Germany and Serbia were really close in the first half but as time goes, Germany started to lack behind.  There were very few people cheering for Germany else they might have done bettter.. but who knows..

Overall, there are four periods in waterpolo, each lasts 8 minute.  One of my favorite part during the event is the half time performances of different style of chinese drumming. Pretty wicked.  Another part is that all waterpolo players had pretty nice bodies.. hehe.. some are old and bald.. but the younger ones have nice six-eight packs.. haha.. o_O'

The afternoon session has US and China but I didn't have any tickets.  On the good side, I don't have to be in the dilemma of which team to cheer.

When I got home, I planned to take a nap from 4 to 6, but ending up sleeping till the 4am of next morning.. I am a pig..

In Beijing for the Olympic Opening Ceremony

CIMG1588

One comment - There's no other place other than being in BJ at this moment of time.

As you all know, I did not get any ticket to the actual opening cermeony in the bird nest.  However, my back up plan was to view the ceremony at a big screen.  Indeed, that's what I did.

I came back early from Tian Jing today as I was visiting my aunt in law (nicest person in the world) and my uncle.  My friend and I met up at another friends place to get prepare. Our plan was to be a crazy sports fan. I painted my whole face - half US flag and half China flag.  We gathered 5 people and decorated our hair with hair pieces that each represent a color of ring.

When we went to the location (Xi Fu Jing), we were certainly the attention graber.  Many ppl requested to take photo with us (we looked really crazy). Due to popularity, we randomly decided to collect money from ppl who wish to take picture with us and donate the money to Szechuan Earthquake. I am not sure how much we made, but definitely over 1000 rmb.  It was an amazing place. And of course, many tv station and newspaper interviewed us, so we are kind of a big deal now "celebrity status".. hehe.. jk

We stayed at the viewing station for the performance part of the show. To be honest, I am not in love with the olympic theme song at all. I couldn't even understand any of the english part.  Anyway, we moved to a bar for the second half of the show.  The part that really touched me is the final torch relay - Li Ling running in the air like walking on the moon. That was the moment I felt like - Holy Shit, its here!

After the showing, it took my friend and i forever to get home. We took the taxi but there was road block so we had to take the train. Once we got off the train, we were unable to find a taxi.. no luck even after 20+ mins. All along, we just started randomly waving at all cars coming our way.  Finally, someone stop by, and we just got on (i know its a bit dangerous).  The guys was really nice and so damn lucky (he got to see the ceremony life) and took us home. So, here I am, took a shower, and now blogging.

p.s Photo would be uploaded.
